ARC Browser is a rom collection browser and emulator frontend that maintains a database of all your games, presented in a user friendly way, and lets you play them using your favorite emulators. Suitable for both phones and tablets (provided you have a gamepad) and of course Android TV!FEATURES * A searchable database of all your roms, indexed by systems and categories. * Automatically scrape data about your games and download boxart and background images. * Roms with the same filename (excluding text in parenthesis or brackets) are automatically grouped and presented as a single game. When you press Play you can choose which version to load. Useful not only when you have different versions of a game, but also for multi-disc games. * More than 90 configuration templates for different emulators.
IMPORTANT * Boxart, background images and game names in the Play Store screenshots have been blurred or removed to avoid copyright infringement. * This application does not include any emulators or games. * Many good emulators are not currently listed in the Android TV Play Store, but that doesnt necessarily mean they dont work on Android TV. You should read up on sideloading. * Gamepad required. * Artwork and metadata scraping from online databases requires the availability of third-party services. If youre having issues, please check server status first. The developer of this app is not responsible for the availability of such services.
SCRAPINGYour roms should be named as close as possible to the original game name. There are however multiple settings that you can use to fine-tune the scraping process. For example, converting ", The" in a filename to "The " and ignoring text withing parenthesis and brackets. If a match cannot be found, it will also try to replace any instances of " - " in the filename with ": " automatically.
BOXART AND BACKGROUNDSBoxart and background images are automatically downloaded where available when scraping. If you want to override this (maybe you dont like the downloaded images, or no images are available) you can place you own in the same directory as the roms. They should be named as follows:
Boxart (front): [rom filename without extension]_box.pngBoxart (read): [rom filename without extension]_boxback.pngBackground: [rom filename without extension]_background.png
For example, the background image for a rom named "Duck Hunt.smc" should be named "Duck Hunt_background.png".
GENRE IMAGESBy default, the buttons for genres on the main screen have different colored backgrounds. You can override these with images of your own, on a per-system basis. To do this, simply place images named "genre_[genre].png" in your rom directory. Replace [genre] with the exact lowercase name of the genre. For example, the image for "Action" should be named "genre_action.png". To override the All Games image, the image should be named "genre_all.png". The images should have an aspect ration of 4:3 and be at least 400x300 pixels in size (preferrably 800x600 for 4k).
GRID VIEW IMAGEThe default grid view image can also be overridden on a per-system basis. To do this, place an image called grid_view.png in your rom directory. The image can have any aspect ratio, but will be scaled to a maximum of 350x350 pixels on a 1080p screen (700x700 pixels on a 4k screen). The default image is 400x300 pixels.
THEMINGApart from all the above, you can also specify a theme directory to further change the look and feel of the app. More info about this at nvidiashieldzone.com
